The Dev List

Some of you might have noticed a few new options in the Employees Only menu along with the new redesign. The REALLY important one of these is the Dev List. I'll be posting "tasks" for everybody. You can use the filters on the page to pare it down to stuff that matters to you. There are also a lot of "Unassigned" tasks- if you need something to do, search for those, change the status to Assigned and put your name on it.

Drupal Upgraded

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded Drupal to version 6. This means I can start doing some crazy cool stuff with this site (technically, I could before, but I would be really lost without Views 2. I was never as good with D5 as I am with D6!)

Look for some meaningful functionality upgrades here in the near future. First few on the list:

1. Art Asset Pipeline System
2. Development List (Tied to groupware)
3. Navigation Revamp (based somewhat on Stephan's input)

Internet Access WORKS

I am writing this post from the office- Internet is GO! Only took three days and 5 calls; if the office was not literally next door to AT&T it would have been next week before we got any traction.

Time to start making pilgrimages to the office, people! Lets get you all set up!

New Office

So, I have the lease in hand for the new office. 200 Suburban Rd. B3 in SLO. I'm going to move the desks over there tonight. Need to get DSL set up ASP, I'll see what I can do there.

Also, for those of you that need it, I've posted my Eclipse for Linux install. Check the forums for a link!

New Job!

I just got word yesterday that I've been hired for a new job- and this could be the one I've been looking for. Of course, I say that about all jobs, but this one is pretty promising- Senior Software Developer at Mindbody Online. They are #59 on Inc. 5000's fastest growing companies, for one thing. For another, it's performance based incentives, full bennies, lots of time off; all good stuff that it's been a long time, if ever, since I've had.

The Big Push

So it's time for the Big Push, to get the demo out the door. I was really hoping to have said demo done by last night, but there was just too many little bugs that hinted at bigger bugs yet to come. I worked all day yesterday, trying to button and patch and clean and scrub; it's really close but no cigar. Apparently the windows build is not happy, and I can't test the OSX build because my power adapter on my laptop took a dive. Linux is A-OK though, and looking good.

The Strange and Chilling Tale of Cthubuntu

OK, I had to post this up just because it made me crack up:

Project Make It Pretty

So the AI stuff is crunching away, ships are moving better but not quite right, and the mission handling is also under way. Right now, I'm pushing Project Make It Pretty. Alot of the code to make it pretty is already there. Yesterday, I added the capability to have fat stacks of engine flares, which will go a long way to making it pretty (looks awesome with the turn jets, BTW). We're going to need to get the particle editor integrated into the greater editor sooner rather than later, though, so that we aren't using smoke contrails for ion engine flares.

Escape Velocity- a Mac-only Treat

Here's a quick reference in an Ars Technica article about how Escape Velocity was one of the most longed-for Mac-only games. http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/09/18/mac-only-feist-a-ga...

Prototype 2 READY!

Hey guys, prototype 2 is a go! I'm going to zip it up and make it available, but that is really a stop gap method. If you don't have Eclipse and Subversion set up yet, well, https://www.cwssoftware.com/wiki/index.php/Connect_to_Subversion_Repository!

Basically, you need to have that going so that you can contribute back- if you mod the scenario, for instance. Even you tech-phobic writers should be plugged into Subversion, and now is as good a time as any to learn.

Let's set up a chat for a subversion tutorial, so that I can tell you all a bit about how the system works.
